The Research Team serves a critical function within our organization as they perform the first step in strengthening the health of our portfolio — the selection and recommendation of stocks that will generate high returns. Our Research Team conducts research on seven industries: Consumer, Energy, Healthcare, Industrials, Real Estate Investment Trust (REITs), Technology, Media, & Telecommunications (TMT), and Financial Institutions Group (FIG). Research Analysts expected to develop an in-depth knowledge of their assigned industry, follow industry trends, understand companies within their industry, and analyze financial statements in order to determine which company stocks make for promising investments. Research Analysts use these tools to compose investment memos and form investment opinions that they then present to the Investment Board via a stock pitch.

Industry groups on the Research Team are comprised of six to ten Research Analysts (RAs) and are led by Senior Analysts (SAs), who are selected based on their knowledge of the industry, strong leadership abilities, and exceptional performance as RAs. Full SWS members may apply to be a Research Analyst or Senior Analyst at the start of each semester; assignment to industry groups takes place following acceptance onto the Research Team.
